The 2012 Dzogchen Winter Retreat and
Buddha Path Editing Conference

The Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation is excited to announce that this year's Dzogchen Winter Retreat will take place at the Dzogchen Retreat Center in Western Oregon.

This year's retreat will be focused on the editing and practices of the 3rd edition of The Buddha Path by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche. By participating in the completion of this landmark practice text, you'll be helping countless beings for all time. The Buddha Path is a concise summary of all of Buddha's teachings in English. The second edition, first printed in 2004, includes Sutrayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana views and practices. It has been translated into several languages including Chinese, Russian, and Spanish. Dzogchen is often translated as “the great perfection,” but can also be translated as, “the great inclusion,” meaning that the Dzogchen tradition recognizes the necessity for perpetuating all of Buddha Shakyamuni's teachings. The 3rd Edition has been under development since the 2nd edition was released and includes many profound additions to make this text even more comprehensive than before.

The two-week retreat will start at 3 pm on Tuesday, January 3rd and will conclude Wednesday, January 18th at 3 pm. There is an option to come for the first week only. We look forward to your participation!

2012 Dzogchen Weekend Retreat

Weekend Work Retreat at the DRC
Guided by the Upasaka Bodhisattvas
Contemplating The Four Immeasurables

May 25–28, 2012 ~ Topic: Compassion

Please join us at the Dzogchen Retreat Center for our program of four weekend retreats. You are encouraged to attend the entire weekend, but you may attend for as little as one day, or you may extend your stay beyond the scheduled dates. Spring and early summer are our busy season here at the DRC, and we need "all hands on deck" to get everything shipshape for the Internship and the many other retreats on our schedule this year. Everyone participating will be here as a volunteer.

We're keeping the price of our weekend work retreats very affordable at only $20 per day plus optional dana to the teachers. Although most of your time will be invested in Dharma activities such as making progress on our many maintenance and improvement projects, you will also participate in group morning and evening sessions. There will also be one teaching session and Dharma discussion each Saturday and Sunday, led by one or more Bodhisattvas authorized to teach by Khen Rinpoche.

The curriculum for the four weekend retreats is inspired by the Four Immeasurables. A beautiful little book with excerpts of teachings from the Dzogchen Lineage Masters about the Four Immeasurables will be available to help you deepen your contemplation during your retreat.

2012 SAGA DAWA DUCHEN CELEBRATION

Everyone Welcome to Help Celebrate
Buddha's Enlightenment Day
and Dzogchen Retreat Center's
Fifth Anniversary

Join us for a special event commemorating Saga Dawa Duchen and the 5th Anniversary of Dzogchen Retreat Center, USA This month is Saga Dawa, the fourth lunar month and the holiest time of the Tibetan Buddhist Year. This precious time culminates in the observation of Buddha Shakyamuni’s enlightenment and parinirvana on the 15th Lunar Day known as Saga Dawa Duchen.

In the western calendar, Saga Dawa Duchen occurs on Monday, June 4, 2012. On this auspicious day, the power of positive and negative intentions and actions increases one billion (1,000,000,000) times or more. With this in mind, Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche and the Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation would like to invite all sangha for a special gathering and offering ceremony to commemorate Buddha Shakyamuni’s Enlightenment and Parinirvana and the 5th anniversary of The Dzogchen Retreat Center.

This ceremony will be a precious time for sangha to get together and engage in virtuous Dharma activities, especially making offerings. Everyone is welcome to attend.

10am – 11:30am : Preparations for Ceremony

2012 Dzogchen Volunteer Days

The summer weeks leading up to each Internship are our busy season here at the Dzogchen Retreat Center. Many Interns come early and other sangha members come home to the DRC to enjoy our wonderful weather and help with one or more of the many volunteer projects.

The Volunteer Days are also a wonderful opportunity to engage in some personal practice in this sacred environment, receive some Dharma tutoring from some of the Bodhisattvas resident here, and generate a lot of merit by joyfully engaging in Dharma activities.

The fees to participate are only $20 per day, $140 per week. Come for one day, a weekend, or a few weeks. Your special skills will be greatly appreciated, and if you think you don't have skills, we have plenty of projects where we can easily train you on the skills you'll need to help.

2012 Padmasambhava Drupchen
(Rigdzin Dupa Drupchen)

The Tibetan word Drupchen translates literally as 'Vast Accomplishment.' This extremely powerful group practice draws upon all the skillful methods of Dharma contained within the Vajrayana teachings to generate great merit and eliminate negativity of all kinds. This type of sadhana, or 'means to accomplishment', focuses on continuous day and night recitation of mantras and includes abundant offerings, visualizations, mudras, chanting, music, and dancing. All of these supports for positive thinking harmonize to help create a pure and sacred environment in the perception of the practitioners. It is said that the positive karma generated by several days of Drupchen practice engaged with the correct intention can equal that of months or even years spent in solitary retreat.

The Padmasambhava Drupchen is called Rigdzin Dupa in Tibetan, which is often translated as the “Gathering of Awareness-Holders.” This practice is one of three root sadhanas within the Longchen Nyingthig (Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse) cycle of teachings. It emphasizes the invocation of, and meditation on, the guru or lama aspect manifesting in the form of Padmasambhava, surrounded by his retinue of Vidyadharas, disciples, deities, dakinis and Dharma protectors . It was revealed by the great terton, or Treasure-Revealer, Jigme Lingpa (1730-1798).

The Great Merit of Supporting Drupchen

Now, more than ever, the powerfully focused Sangha practice contained within Drupchen is vital for purifying the harmful energy of negative thinking that proliferates as the complex problems that we find in modern societies. It also provides a means for the public to transform impermanent worldly resources into an inexhaustible source of merit. It is the aspiration of the organizers of the Summer Retreat to raise $10,000 for this sacred sadhana to finance the purchase of offerings, ritual implements, sacred clothes, musical instruments, and decorative ornaments to be utilized for the benefit of all beings. Especially for those who may not be able to attend the Drupchen, a donation made with pure intention to support its success is an extremely beneficial and worthwhile action. Please consider contributing to the Drupchen Fund today by contacting the Retreat Director.

Terms and Fees

This will be a residential retreat with an application process and prerequisites.

The fee for approved adults to attend the Drupchen will be $600. There will be a $300 discount for those enrolled in the 1-month Buddha Path Retreat. Those enrolled in the 3-month Internship are asked to contribute $100 for the week of tsok feast celebrations.
