Thinking and Belief

An intimate talk with Tibetan Meditation Master Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche.

From wandering faith to endless doubt, all beings automatically and adamantly believe in their own thinking—blindly professing beliefs in different religions, philosophies, politics, and cultural ideologies. Without understanding how thinking works, beings hold on to these beliefs whose contents constantly change, evolve, and decline. Knowing with certainty what is thinking, mind, and being, we no longer build sand castles of false hopes and fears at the edge of the seas of change.

Buddhist Holy Places, Teachings on the Value of Seclusion

An evening Dzogchen teaching in Eugene by H.E. Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche.

Many Buddhist teachings emphasize the merit of creating dedicated practice places, such as monasteries and retreat centers, and the benefits of practicing in such places. Among people who are interested in doing spiritual practice, some people naturally have aspiration of doing practice in such secluded locations, such as monasteries and retreat centers. Are these people right, or are they being escapist? Other people like some Buddhist ideas, but regard these institutions as cultural or historical artifacts and doubt their present value, and the value of practicing within them. Are these people right, or are they missing an important point? What is the value of working to found special practice locations? To whom do the Buddha's teaching on the value of secluded practice apply? And what are the special benefits and results of secluded practice?

West Los Angeles, CA Focus on Bliss, Luminosity and Emptiness

Is bliss the result of indulgence or is it the state of freedom from the trap of temporary happiness? What is the source of luminosity, is it the glow from the chatter of excited mind or is it the pure light that comes from the untainted natural state of mind? Is emptiness a dark cold void or is it the joyous play of interdependent origination? These three states seem far away and out of reach most of the time. In this talk Rinpoche will discuss simple methods that lead towards tapping into these enlightened states.

The Buddha Path, written by Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, is a concise compendium in the form of a practice manual of the entire vast range of teachings contained within the Dzogchen Lineage of Buddhism. Buddhist teachings are designed to benefit sentient beings, with different types of teachings, like different types of medicine, designed and intended for students of different Karmas, capacities, and situations. The overall structure of this book reflects the stages or sections of the Buddha’s teachings designated for students of different Dharma senses. Each section of the book corresponds to a specific major section of the Buddha’s teaching, and presents the authentic view and practice of that section. The Buddha Path then reflects the limitless treasury of the Buddhadharma and the unity of all teachings within Dzogchen, and at the same time offers the individual concise methods to incorporate specific teachings into practice and life.

What does the word Buddha mean? Usually mis-translated as “The Awakened One,” this talk will focus on the preferred translation of Buddha as “Vast Awakening,” which shifts the focus of meaning from “a conceptual other who has awakened,” to our own intrinsic awakening potential. The goal of any spiritual or religious search is to find true and lasting happiness. The goal of any philosophy is to make sense of reality. Not many people can successfully teach someone how to achieve either goal. Khenpo Choga Rinpoche is that rare kind of teacher who can clearly and simply explain complicated and profound concepts and transmit them to an audience. He explains the nature of happiness, reality, consciousness, time, reincarnation and karma with examples from philosophy, science, and everyday life. His lectures are perfect for beginners and those interested in Buddhist Philosophy. Khenpo translates profound Tibetan and Sanskrit terminology into simple English phrases that empower the English language to transform enigmatic Buddhist teachings into lessons a Western mind can understand. Long-time Buddhist practitioners can also greatly benefit from his teachings by seeing the concepts they have been contemplating for years in a clear light. Many Buddhists have commented that they didn't really understand key foundational principles of Dharma until they met Khenpo.

There is a sugested donation at the door to help pay for the tour expenses and you may also wish make an donation directly to the teacher (dana) as he offers the teachings for free.
