The Nature of Mind is True Happiness An antidote for our current world situation. All beings have a tendency to believe in their own thinking, causing a blind grasping to beliefs, leading us away from true happiness into suffering. Collectively this leads us into stress and conflict, and away from world peace. Yet if our natural tendency to seek happiness becomes vast and compassionate, it transforms into the mind of enlightenment, or true happiness. Tonight Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche will address such fundamental life questions as, "Does ‘I’ really exist?”, "What is the nature of thinking and karma?" and “How to apply this timeless wisdom in our current world situation”. In addition, Khenpo Choga will lead us in Buddhist chanting and meditation practices. Location: Cost is by donation. For more information, respond by email,

New York City, NY | Buddha Path Urban Retreat - REGISTRATION REQUIRED To register, please call 201-796-7253 or email dostr116@yahoo.com The goal of any spiritual or religious search is to find true and lasting happiness. The goal of any philosophy is to make sense of reality. Not many people can successfully teach someone how to achieve either goal. Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche is that rare kind of teacher who can clearly and simply explain complicated and profound concepts and transmit them to an audience. From his scholarly Buddhist point-of-view, Khenpo boldly explains topics that philosophy professors often steer clear of. He explains the nature of happiness, reality, consciousness, time, reincarnation and karma with examples from philosophy, science, and everyday life. His lectures are perfect for beginners and those interested in Buddhist Philosophy. Khenpo translates profound Tibetan and Sanskrit terminology into simple English phrases that empower the English language to transform enigmatic Buddhist teachings into lessons a Western mind can understand. Long-time Buddhist practitioners can also greatly benefit from his teachings by seeing the concepts they have been contemplating for years in a clear light. Many Buddhists have commented that they didn’t really understand key foundational principles of Dharma until they experienced Khenpo teaching them. There is a suggested donation of $60 per day for the 2-day Urban Retreat, $120 for both days. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The suggested donation covers the hard costs and Rinpoche receives no income from the door. An offering, or Dana (Sanskrit for generosity), may be made separately to the teacher and is encouraged. Eugene, Oregon | The Buddha's First Teaching The Four Truths of Enlightened Beings, also known as "The Four Noble Truths" are the Buddha's first teaching given after attaining perfect Enlightenment. They are the cornerstone of Buddhist teaching in all traditions of Buddhism. In a few sentences these truths encompass the whole of the Buddhist path from start to finish and lead to the vast teachings, profound meaning and specific practices of Buddhism. The five original students of the Buddha who heard these teachings in person each attained the enlightened level of "Arhat" on the spot, simply on the basis of hearing, understanding and realizing these teachings immediately in the presence of the perfectly Enlightened Buddha. Buddhists, aspiring Buddhists, or people interested in Buddhism should understand the teaching of the four truths, and most importantly should understand how these teachings constantly relate to their practice of Buddhism and their daily states of mind. Location: This teaching is open to the public. Admission is free but donations are needed and appreciated. For more information please contact the Dzogchen Dharma Center: |

Eugene, Oregon | Lineage, The life of all living Buddhist traditions is based on a lineage of Enlightened Wisdom descending from the Buddha through certain individuals to the present day. The spiritual path of Buddhism is inseparable from a relation with this lineage and with a teacher. But the idea of such a beneficial wisdom lineage seems abstract to many people. Likewise, many people new to Buddhism have never had a spiritual teacher, and do not know how to relate to such a teacher or what to expect from such a relationship. Location: This teaching is open to the public. Admission is free but donations are needed and appreciated. Space is limited and pre-registration is requested. Eugene, Oregon | Understanding the True Meaning of Renunciation in Buddhism Many people think spiritual renunciation means "leaving" society, forsaking care for oneself and abandoning the care and responsibility for others' happiness in order to pursue a higher spiritual goal. But Buddhist renuniciation is directed entirely toward the renunciation, decrease and elimination of one's own negative thinking, tendencies and habits. In this teaching Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche will discuss the correct understanding of renunciation, and the value of renunciation on the spiritual path. This teaching is particularly connected with the Vajrakilaya Puja/Ceremony which will follow later in the afternoon. Location: This teaching is open to the public. San Rafael, California | ----------- REGISTRATION REQUIRED ----------- As Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche often remarks, “everything has a lineage.” The power of all living Buddhist traditions is based on wisdom lineages of profound teacher-to-student relationships that connect the Buddhist students living today directly with Buddha Shakyamuni. For over 40 years the Buddha traveled and transmitted Dharma teachings to countless students who in turn became teachers of Dharma. Over the ensuing centuries, amazing masters and diligent practitioners have carried wisdom lineages forward, perpetuating them for the benefit of all beings. The spiritual path of Buddhism is inseparable from the heart-connection between a student and a kind root master. The devotion-mind that is nurtured by a student becomes the path by which that student realizes their own primordial awareness, their true nature.
