THE ONE DOLLAR MIRACLE

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
~ Margaret Mead, American anthropologist (1901 - 1978)

The One Dollar Miracle Team

A letter from Mary, Shannon, Sean and Hazlitt

Precious Sangha:

Rejoicing In Our Work

Whether we’ve donated one dollar, $100,000, an hour of time, or a prayer of aspiration, all of us should pause to rejoice in an amazing accomplishment. In just five short years, we’ve raised $1.2 million in donations to secure the property of the Dzogchen Retreat Center. This beautiful 160-acre holy place is our Dharma headquarters for transmitting the Buddha’s teachings in the west. Together, we’ve made this possible! And just think - we’ve accomplished this with most meager of resources and a small, all-volunteer organization dispersed across the globe. This is a truly extraordinary achievement.

Rejoice in how this generosity and virtuous work has already born fruit with more than three years of Dzogchen Internships that have allowed our precious teacher, Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, to train nearly 100 Dharma teachers. The importance of this achievement cannot be overstated. It is not hyperbole to state that we are doing the same work that Tibetan King Trisong Detsen did when he invited Padmasambhava and Shantarakshita to Samye Monastery, and sent the first 400 people to India to translate the Dharma. Khenpo Choga Rinpoche’s transmission of the Dharma to the west is of the same level of magnitude as that pivotal moment in history.

A Rare Opportunity to Change this World

Take a moment to think about this amazing feat. We have the blessings of Khenpo Choga Rinpoche’s commitment to train future Dzogchen Lineage holders right here in the west. It is almost hard to grasp how rare this opportunity is. While many other Tibetan teachers teach in the west, many are burdened with supporting their monasteries and essentially become traveling fundraisers for their work back home.

With Khenpo Choga Rinpoche, we have a 33rd generation Dzogchen Lineage holder living with us day in and day out, directly training students in the same manner as the great Dzogchen Masters of the past, such as Patrul Rinpoche. This will truly change the world – and has already begun to do so!

Be a Part of This Historic Time

Now, we have the unique opportunity to be a part of the historic completion of securing the Dzogchen Retreat Center for countless future generations. We own the land, yet we still have a loan of $64,000 to repay by July 1, 2011 before we are completely debt-free. Becoming debt-free will allow us to direct all of our resources towards our Dharma activities, including more in-depth internships, week-long retreats, and publishing the next edition of the Buddha Path, among other initiatives.

Please join The One Dollar Miracle Fund Drive!

Great things are accomplished by many people doing small things. We are calling on all sangha, friends, and others to just give one dollar a day. Our goal is to gather 365 people to give one dollar a day for the next 365 days. This One Dollar Miracle will result in more than $133,000 of donations collected over one year, with $64,000 to pay off the final loan on time and $66,000 remaining to fund next year’s internship program and other important Dharma projects.

Think about it: for merely one-fourth the price of a latte or the purchase price of one song download a day, you can significantly contribute to the success of the Dzogchen lineage by participating in this challenge. This truly is a One Dollar Miracle.

Two Ways You Can Help

There are two ways you can donate. One, you can join The Circle of Compassion, our online recurring donation program, through the Dzogchen Lineage website. To give One Dollar a day, choose the $30 per month option. If you can give more, please do. It will help us accomplish our goals even more quickly!

Help us create a One Dollar Miracle and join The Circle Of Compassion by clicking “Donate Now” at the Dzogchen Lineage giving page:

www.dzogchenlineage.org/giving

Alternatively, you can mail a check payable to “DSSF” for $365, or send a check for $30 every month, to:

Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation USA
3325 Commerce St. Ste. 111-442
Eugene, OR 97402

As an added bonus, the first 25 people to donate $365 will receive a bound blank notebook with a beautiful, full-color picture of Padmasambhava or Avalokiteshvara on the cover. This is perfect for taking notes at a teaching or for journaling.

Can’t commit to $365? Any amount is greatly appreciated. Participating at even a few dollars a month allows you to participate in the merit of this historic effort. May we all remember that generosity is the root of wealth!
