Invitation Letter from Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche

My Dear Chinese Dharma Students:
Thanks to the efforts and generosity of many of my Chinese-speaking practitioners, the first edition of the Chinese Buddha Path has now been printed and is in wide distribution. During the month of September this year, I will teach and train on every part of The Buddha Path so that my students who attend this retreat can achieve a deep understanding of every level of the text. I will teach how to remember the core principles of The Buddha Path and how to apply these principles in every part of your daily life. I will wholeheartedly train you how to teach The Buddha Path to your students.
Since May 2007, the Dzogchen Shri Singha Foundation, USA has established and improved upon a very auspicious, beautiful and quiet environment here at the Dzogchen Retreat Center USA. I have selected September as a very comfortable time of year for the Dzogchen Buddha Path Retreat. Already over 10 retreats have been held here, all taught mostly in English, and it is clear that this has become a holy place for the perpetuation of the Dzogchen Lineage that will be home to future retreats in many languages for many centuries to come. This retreat will be the first at this Dzogchen Retreat Center taught in Chinese.
I invite all my Chinese students and all Chinese speaking people who would like to learn authentic Buddhism to unite in America by attending this retreat. For the past 15 years, I have really wanted to share deep Dharma teachings in Chinese to Chinese audiences, and have done so whenever possible, but never for more than one week at a time. Now, the auspicious time and favourable conditions have arisen for a longer retreat of three weeks. For these three weeks, and for 12 hours every day, we will learn, contemplate, and meditate on Dharma in the Chinese language. The Dzogchen Retreat Center USA is the best training camp in the world to learn authentic Dharma. I not only invite all Mainland Chinese people, but I also invite everyone from all Chinese-speaking communities throughout the entire world.
Last year seven Chinese-speaking people came to the Dzogchen Lineage Internship and studied together with other students from around the world for six months. Each day they had a special Dharma discussion group in Chinese where they reviewed what they have been taught in English.
For around 100 generations and for more than 2,000 years the Chinese people have practiced Buddhism, much earlier than the Tibetan people. It is an historical fact that after India, what is China today became the earliest global region to embrace Buddhism.
In these modern days, many people misunderstand Buddhism. If you know the importance of the true meaning of Buddhism then you will realize the value of Chinese culture. I really want to show you that authentic Buddhism is the essence of Chinese culture, and how to apply this to your daily life and to our societies.
Based on the historical influence of Buddhism, Chinese have invented many great things. We are now using their technology and innovations every day in modern society. Chinese food, art, exercise systems, medicine and science all influence and serve the whole world.
Many modern Chinese people don’t realize the value of Chinese culture because they don’t understand the meaning of Buddhism. After completing the Dzogchen Lineage Internship, some of my Chinese students commented to me, “now I really understand how precious our Chinese culture is.” Like my Chinese students, I love and highly respect beneficial Chinese culture because I have a deep understanding of Buddhism.
Some modern people are afraid of Buddhism since they have the impression it is superstitious. This is a type of blind faith. Some others believe in Buddhism without any research, examination or reason. This is another type of blind faith. Neither of these two approaches are of much benefit to oneself or others. It is very important to learn, contemplate and meditate on Dharma according to Buddha’s teachings at a sacred place for an extended period of time with a compassionate and wise teacher.
I am very happy to unite with all of my Chinese students from around the world here at the Dzogchen Retreat Center in the United States of America.
Love and Blessings,
Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche
